On Sept 23rd, Sidney will premiere on Apple TV+. Sidney is produced by Oprah and honors the legendary life of the late Sidney Poitier–Denzel Washington before Denzel Washington. Poitier was the first Black man to win an Academy award and the first Black man to have an onscreen kiss with a white woman. His works changed the trajectory of race relations in America while opening doors for Black men and women to exist in Hollywood as well as play strong-powerful roles instead of the stereotypical roles of illiterate-criminal Black men or black mammies of that time.
The revealing documentary features interviews with Spike Lee, Halle Berry, and Denzel Washington. Sidney is directed by Reginald Hudlin of House Party fame.
